What to expect on your first appointment

When you come for your first appointment you can expect to spend 2 to 4 hours at San Diego Sexual Medicine. You will undergo a bio-psycho-social evaluation which means you will spend time with Dr. Goldstein and, usually, our sex therapist Dr. Clark. Based on your particular sexual health concerns, you will undergo a physical examination and a series of tests. In some cases, you may be required to be in an aroused state for appropriate evaluation. Based on findings, Dr. Goldstein may recommend your going to Alvarado Hospital for laboratory testing, radiologic diagnostic testing or physical therapy.

What you should bring with you to your first appointment

Please bring the completed packet of materials with you to your first appointment. If you live far from San Diego and have already mailed in your registration materials and questionnaires, you my want to check that you have completed our most up-to-date materials. If you have new laboratory tests or medical records relative to your sexual health issues, please bring these with you. In addition, we welcome and encourage you to bring your partner with you whenever possible.

How to schedule a telephone courtesy call

Call 619.265.8865 to schedule one 10-minute telephone courtesy conversation. A courtesy call provides you with an opportunity to speak directly with Dr. Goldstein at no charge. He will talk with you about your sexual health problems, your management goals, previous evaluations, how he may help you, and if an appointment at San Diego Sexual Medicine is appropriate. This information will become a permanent part of your health record at San Diego Sexual Medicine. Before the courtesy call, you may want to send a brief summary of your sexual medicine history. Please e-mail it to information@sdsm.info or fax it 619.265.7696. If you decide to make an appointment, Dr. Goldstein can help you understand some of the tests you may be undergoing so that you can judge the amount of time you may need to spend at San Diego Sexual Medicine. How to make an appointment

Call 619.265.8865 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Goldstein or Dr. Hartzell at San Diego Sexual Medicine. If you have spoken with Dr. Goldstein on a courtesy call already, please relay the information to the receptionist regarding your sexual health problem and the tests and/or days Dr. Goldstein recommended. If you have not spoken with Dr. Goldstein, you may want to schedule a courtesy call at a time prior to your scheduled appointment. Please have a charge card available as we require this to hold your appointment. Your card will be charged $75.00 if you fail to provide 72 hours (3 business days) notice for cancellation of your appointment.
